Topic: Games You Recently Beat?

Just beat the entirety of Inside in a single 3½ hour sitting.

You'll probably be aware of it if you saw my post on the game in this thread a while back, but I was firmly in the camp that Limbo was a fair bit overrated. Don't get me wrong: it's a very good game I definitely enjoyed it. It's just that there was bit too much trial and error in the puzzle-solving for me to really get into it.

Inside, on the other hand, is essentially just Limbo but much, MUCH better. The puzzles are challenging but never frustratingly so, it's got some insanely memorable moments (people who have played it know exactly what I'm referring to) and it has what is probably one of my favourite styles/art directions of all time.

I wouldn't say it's perfect (there are WAY too many water levels for my liking) but goddamn it was one hell of an experience that I'm probably going to like even more in retrospect. An easy 9/10 and I'd highly encourage people to grab it whenever it goes on sale next.

Beat Spider-Man 2018 today. I wanted to get a replay in before 2 came out, and I nearly beat it in time. Same day is good enough though.

I beat Astro's Playroom. It's a very enjoyable game.

I beat TMNT Shredder's Revenge. It's fun game for local co-op, if we play in on big TV screen.

I reached the end of Finding Paradise Thursday evening, clearing my slate just in time for a certain new Mario game most Nintendo fans are happily yelling about. I mostly hold with the review on this site; Finding Paradise is certainly worth playing out of Freebird Games's Sigmund Corp. series, though it doesn't quite hit the emotional levels of To The Moon. Both games do, however, linger in the mind long after finishing. Despite having its origins in RPG Maker XP, this is more of a walking sim with text and some light puzzle solving thrown in. The puzzles feel a bit more difficult than those found in To The Moon, though not by much. It's hard to say much else without going into spoilers, just that Drs. Eva Rosalene and Neil Watts are back trying to help a new client with Sigmund's memory-altering procedure right before they pass on.

I did run into a couple of bugs with the Switch version. More than once, I was either movement or text locked and couldn't progress. A couple of helpful threads online recommended using the touch screen on the Switch to move instead of controls, and this did resolve the issue for me. It's highly advised to play in handheld mode.

@Fizza I'm glad you've finished both LIMBO and INSIDE. I mostly agree with your takes when it comes to both games, though I think the latter truly breaches the lines of horror more. Especially the underwater sections. Not to mention the concept of how the last leg of the game works after things turn...weird. As it's short, I need to go back and play INSIDE sometime.

100% finished Super Mario Bros. Wonder. A great platformer, which made me smile alot. The difficulty is just right. I like the locations and the atmosphere. The small challenges between the levels are a nice addition.

I beat Sonic Frontiers: The Final Horizon.

This is what I wanted from Frontiers at the start, but I’m glad Sonic Team took their time to make this as good as it can be.

Plus, I’m Here (Revisited) is an absolute banger of a final boss theme, so that’s great too.

I just recently beat Lies of P. Fantastic game, if you can handle the difficulty! The world, story, and characters are so well done as well as the combat. It feels just like FromSoft made it. 10/10 highly recommend

So I finally beat Zero Time Dilemma: A Zero Escape Story. I've done that joke several times, for no reason. A (Blank) Story as a made up addition to the title. It's a trope. shrugs

But anyway, I need to page @Ralizah because I distinctly remember their dislike of it and I cannot believe how wrong that was. This game is an incredible experience. I have rarely been so entertained by a game. It is wildly entertaining in a way very few games have pulled off for me and I can't help but praise it. After all that anti-hype, what a wonderful experience it was.

I'm not saying its a wonderful experience in the way they wanted it to be. But the end product was an incredible experience. Those plot points, this dialogue, these twists, those sudden endings. The animation, omg the animation. Masterful. It's like a halfway point between David Cage and Hideo Kojima for just being so entertaining, but with the budget of an obscure indie title. I don't often get into so bad its good entertainment, but this had it in spades, and I couldn't be happier.

Ok in all seriousness, I would say its split in 3, fitting for what happens in it. 1/3 of it is wonderful garbage. 1/3 of it is boring and finally pushes the unending dialogue and text too far. 1/3 of it is genuinely good in the way you'd want a Zero Escape game to be. I think the game lifts itself up to being kinda unironically good anyway because the puzzle sections are still good and that's still...enough of the game. And you do still have some really good characters to work off. But wow did Uchikoshi finally push this formula to the point of self-parody. I mean, either that or you needed to make games as high quality as the first two games to make it work so well because without that...you get this. I also kinda feel bad because this has to have been a lesser project that barely got made, because I know the game was nearly not even going to happen, which would've sucked. But I would say at least 2/3 of the game worked for me, despite intent or at times, the actual quality of every aspect of it.

@kkslider5552000 I didn't dislike it on a personal enjoyment level. The formula works for me. I just think it's a gigantic disappointment narratively and thematically, and not only didn't add much of value to the larger mythology but actively detracted from it with the questionable characterizations of series staples and late-game narrative asspulls. Also, the presentation is bad, with some truly atrocious character animation work and dodgy voice acting.

Well, I'm glad you were impressed, at least somewhat.

Finished Disco Elysium the other night. Really enjoyed from start to finish, although I think the ending felt a little rushed. Got the best ending too, apparently.
It appears that the replay value is pretty huge, and considering the excellent characterisation and voice acting, it'll be something to play again every so often.

@Fizza I was a bit non-plussed by the acclaim for Inside. The graphics were pretty and the puzzles were fun, but it never felt special at any point.

Cyberpunk 2077

95 hours, all trophies.

Despite being updated for the past three years, this is what I'd qualify as a bugged mess. A few game breakings bugs along with a couple dozen occurrences where minor bugs required that I load a previous save to alleviate it. But regardless of all the bugs I encountered, I would recommend the game to fans of the cyberpunk genre.

No other game I've played, since Snatcher, has captured the vibe of the genre as well as Cyberpunk 2077.

Sonic Superstars is good. Nice work Arzest. Definitely nice enough for a little playthrough. Maybe I will play Trip's story next. She is a really great addition so far and she looks likeable even with the armor.

Now I am happily awaiting more Sonic games.

Super mario bros Wonder. As it stands, its my 2nd favorite 2d mario title behind 3. I loved this game from start to finish.

It’s marked later in the post, but there are some endgame spoilers for Spider-Man 2. It includes post credit scenes and late story spoilers so be warned.

Spider-Man 2 is incredible. I beat it 100% and am excited for the dlc and sequel. It basically is the first game but better. Side missions ( aside from some EMF missions), combat, story, suits, and bosses are all incredible. Both Kraven and Venom are great villains.

Overall I would give it a 9.5/10, with TOTK barely edging it out for game of the year.

@blindsquarel I was amazed just how good Kraven was!

I gave the game a 10 BUT I am a little annoyed that they portrayed Miles as a much better than the original Spider-Man. They made him better in every way and it bothered me

Yeah, that did bug me a little bit with Miles. although I felt that more in the beginning and at the end both Spider-men seemed to be equals. I do wish the fight against Venom was with Peter only, since he had the personal connection with Harry where Miles didn’t.
