Random: Nintendo And Seattle Aquarium Join Forces For An Animal Crossing Event

Nice to see one of these collaborations happen outside of Japan! They better do a stamp rally!

This is a very cool idea. Seems to be another example of Nintendo becoming more of an “entertainment company,” as they described before - movies, events, and interactive experiences in addition to games.

The aquarium area in Animal Crossing games is so relaxing. I love the atmosphere.

I'm in New York, what's the weather like in Seattle between Oct 7 and Dec 31? My wife probably isn't going to let us go but this does seem like the kind of thing a very far northwest city would want to do in the spring or summer, not late fall. I've been in San Fran that time of year and it's beautiful, just never been to Seattle, always wanted to go.

@rjejr Seattle really never gets particularly cold, just rainy. In October you're looking at highs in the 60s and 70s, lows in the 50s or high 40s. November and December will have highs in the 40s or low 50s, lows in the low 40s or 30s. Occasionally it'll freeze overnight in the dead of winter but it's not really a regular thing. But the stereotype of it raining all the time in Seattle is there for a reason, especially in the winter.

neat event, but man nintendo will promote this game in any way except new content lol. the fact they still dont want us to forget about this game at least gives me hope they have something planned for the franchise sooner than later

Mostly what you’d expect probably. Overcast. Gray. Moderate amounts of rain.
We have also been getting a lot more snow in recent years, but that’s mostly after Thanksgiving and the early part of the new year.
The aquarium is pretty cool, built on a pier sticking out into the Puget Sound.

@KevinLo9 @stereobread Thanks, that's about what I expected. Rain is better than snow but 40'-50' is not screaming "family vacation" to me. Guess I'll start saving up for Nintendo Land in Hollywood. 😁

There's a large Sea Life Aquarium near my apartment next to Disneyland Paris. In 2019 they did a similar event where for a couple of weeks everything was Sonic themed - with Sonic music, handouts and character standees everywhere. It made absolutely no thematic sense - Big the Cat was nowhere to be seen... and the paper handouts with challenges of finding things quickly before Robotnik could naturally encouraged kids to run around causing havoc.

Obviously as a Sonic fan who loves obscure merch it was awesome. I turned up wearing a sonic shirt and got given loads of stuff! But it was a real head scratcher as to how or why it happened - it was close-ish to the release of the movie but not at all themed around it, the art was all Adventure 2 style. But whatever the reason, for a couple of weeks you'd see tonnes of kids walking round Disneyland wearing masks of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and even Shadow, so that was fun!

Of course, this similar themed even makes a whole lot more sense in the context of the game. I think my favourite part of New Horizons is the Mueseum, and as someone who'd never gotten into an Animal Crossing game before, Blathers and Celeste became two of my favourite characters. If I was at this event and I unexpectedly saw a Blathers standee I would absolutely be delighted and insist on taking a photo with him.

Seems like this event is like a year too late. But hey, sounds cool.

@rjejr I live in Washington and I would recommend going in October or early November. Seattle is really nice in fall, and they have a pretty mild climate. It won't be really cold, might rain, but the leaves will have changed colors and the tourists won't be out in full force like they are in spring and summer.

If you do go, other highlights in the area near the aquarium are pike place market, gameworks (huge arcade), and pike brewing if you like beer (its like a beer museum and pub)
